For some reason, this comes as a surprise to a lot of people. Republicans have used patriotic symbolism for a long, long time, and their advertising strategy has worked quite well. Disagree with Bush, a Republican President, and you’re un-American. Disagree with Obama, a Democratic President, and you’re a patriot.
Many cite this study as proof democrats hate America. That’s the point. Democrats vote, serve, pay taxes, pledge allegiance; everything republicans do. They love their country every bit as much as republicans. But advertising works. We all know this. Hell, it’s the American way…
