Let us pray…

Have you heard what many are calling the greatest prayer ever? It’s the prayer that was offered before the start of the NASCAR Federation Auto Parts 300 race in Nashville over the weekend:

The Rev. Joe Nelms not only thanks God for Ford, Toyota and Dodge – to which Drive On says “Hallelujah!” – but then starts almost reading the sponsor’s stickers off the sides of the car. He mentions Sunoco Racing Fuel and General Motors Performance Technology, for instance.

And after thanking the Almighty for his “smokin’ hot wife”, he concluded with “Boogity, boogity, boogity”…

While Nelms received a few negative comments, surprisingly, most of the responses were positive. Many true believers said we need more of this kind of upbeat spirit. Many backsliders said this made them consider returning to the pews.

Now, since I’ve given up on Christianity, I don’t much care about this guy’s eternal soul. But I will say, this is the kind of thing Moses was talking about when he said, “Don’t take the Lord’s name in vain.” And maybe why Jesus said, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Can somebody explain this to me?

A just-released report may spell the end to any hope Barack Obama might have had to win reelection:

The wealth gap between whites and each of the nation’s two largest minorities—Hispanics and blacks—has widened to unprecedented levels amid the housing crisis and the recession, according to new research.

The median net worth of white households is 20 times greater than that of black households and 18 times greater than that of Hispanic households, according to an analysis of newly available 2009 government data by the Pew Research Center, an independent think tank.

What I don’t understand is, why have pundits across the political spectrum blasted the current President for the housing crisis that occurred under the previous President? I’m not just talking about Fox News. I’m talking ABC, NBC, CBS; even the New York Times and MSNBC!

They’re all referencing the same report I read and linked to above. Now, I’m not saying things have gotten any better for Blacks or Hispanics since 2009. They probably haven’t. But that doesn’t answer the question: Why is this report, from 2005 to 2009, bad news for Obama?

Hope that clears it up…

Washington’s debt ceiling showdown is nearing a dramatic Hollywood blockbuster conclusion sure to keep pundits and partisans on the edge of their seats till the final credits roll. This is clearly a case where right-versus-wrong logic fails us. There are many conflicting and divergent aspects to this situation.

Republicans generally believe taxes are a drain on the market, which is bad for jobs. Democrats generally believe the only fiscally responsible position is to look at both sides of the ledger, revenues and spending. Some on the left sincerely believe the federal government has an obligation to stand up for the disenfranchised. Some on the right sincerely believe in limited government. Many simply enjoy the brinksmanship. Some are wholly owned subsidiaries of interest groups. Most of them are worried about getting reelected. And I believe all of them think they’re doing what’s best for the country.

Hope that clears it up…

Warning: This post will piss you off.

Seems the President had some time to kill yesterday, since Boehner wouldn’t return his phone calls. So Obama did what he’s been doing over and over, again and again. Fulfilling campaign promises:

On Friday, President Barack Obama fulfilled a 2008 campaign pledge, formally ending the ban. After meeting with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Adm. Mike Mullen, the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, the president certified to Congress that repealing the ban would not jeopardize the military’s ability to fight.

“As commander in chief, I have always been confident that our dedicated men and women in uniform would transition to a new policy in an orderly manner that preserves unit cohesion, recruitment, retention and military effectiveness,” Obama said in a statement. “Service members will no longer be forced to hide who they are in order to serve our country.”

Let the homophobic hate-fest begin!

These are just a few of the hundreds of responses, to what I thought was good news, from true Christian American patriots. I don’t even know what to say…

True Patriotism

Just a brief exposure to an image of the American flag shifts voters, even Democrats, to Republican beliefs, attitudes and voting behavior even though most don’t believe it will impact their politics, according to a new two-year study just published in the scholarly Psychological Science…

For some reason, this comes as a surprise to a lot of people. Republicans have used patriotic symbolism for a long, long time, and their advertising strategy has worked quite well. Disagree with Bush, a Republican President, and you’re un-American. Disagree with Obama, a Democratic President, and you’re a patriot.

Many cite this study as proof democrats hate America. That’s the point. Democrats vote, serve, pay taxes, pledge allegiance; everything republicans do. They love their country every bit as much as republicans. But advertising works. We all know this. Hell, it’s the American way…
